About The Position

This position serves as an Engineering Technician II in Randolph County Maintenance, assisting in the inspection of roadway assets and inventories. The role supports preliminary inspection work for RMIP and HMIP highway maintenance programs and acts as the county-wide erosion and sediment control/storm water site manager. Inspections cover areas such as storm drains and appurtenances, roadway surface treatment condition, and highway safety issues. The technician will also perform entry-level technical tasks including material sampling, testing, and inspection to ensure adherence to DOT and private contractor codes/standards. Responsibilities include weekly guardrail damage assessment, assisting with NPDES inspections and record keeping, conducting weekly rainfall assessments of secondary road projects, assisting in facility compliance assessments, and supporting maintenance crews under supervisor instruction. Additional duties involve conducting routine inspections for compliance with standards, specifications, and contract terms, interpreting construction plans, and applying general mathematical functions. The position requires the ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures, traffic, heights, and uneven terrain. Moderate physical activity, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing, is necessary, along with the ability to lift 50lbs. The employee must be prepared for emergency callback situations, including snow and ice removal, and may be required to work at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Safe and legal operation of a motor vehicle is expected, and safety toe footwear is required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain.
  • Moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing is required.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Safety toe footwear required.
  • General knowledge of mathematical functions.
  • Knowledge/understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in highway/utility construction and in general highway maintenance.
