About The Position

gTANGIBLE Corporation (gTC) is seeking candidates for the position of Engineering Technician I. This is a full-time, contingent position located at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC), Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA. The role requires an active Secret clearance. gTANGIBLE Corporation is an S corporation and a registered Government contractor providing services in National Security Programs, Professional, Administrative, and Management Support, and Mission and Warfighter Support. They are a Small Business Administration certified, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years' experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of marine equipment and machinery, including but not limited to steering assemblies, main shafting, power drives, main propulsion reduction gears, lubricating and control systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and determining repair needs for marine equipment, including the ability to assess materials, parts, and time requirements for repairs.
  • Experience in disassembling, repairing, and rebuilding components and assemblies such as sea valves, rotary vane pumps, screw-type pumps, reciprocating and centrifugal pumps, reduction gears, and transmissions.
  • United States Citizen
  • Active Secret Clearance.

  • Contractors under the Production Department (C900) must possess the physical stamina to walk continuously for extended periods of time without experiencing significant fatigue. This includes traversing across inclined or uneven surfaces, through/into crowded/confined areas/spaces, up and down ladders/stairs, and in areas of varying environmental qualities.
  • Contractors under the Production Department (C900) must possess adequate upper and lower-body strength necessary to climb ladders, stairs, and ramps.
  • The contractor should possess the physical strength, agility, endurance, and mental constitution required to work aloft (as required). This may require the contractor perform work over the side of a ship's hull, on the mast, or in areas on the superstructure and at a height that requires the use of a safety harness.
  • This upper and lower body strength and endurance should also be sufficient for the contractor to hand-carry necessary tools, parts, materials, and equipment through narrow passageways, up and down ladders, and into/out of confined spaces.
  • Ability to handle objects weighing up to 20 kg (45 lbs.) and occasionally carry objects over 20 kg (45 lbs.) for extended distances
  • Ability to work in confined, poorly lit, or poorly ventilated spaces, both indoors and outdoors, while enduring exposure to high temperatures, noise, and potentially slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Comfortable with climbing narrow vertical ladders or stagings, often while carrying tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, repair, and rebuild components and assemblies, such as sea valves and propulsion machinery, including rotary vane, screw-type, reciprocating, and centrifugal pumps, reduction gears, and transmissions.
  • Perform soft footing procedures, laser and dial indicator alignments, and assemble components such as gage lines, cyclone separators, and various couplings.
  • Interpret and apply technical manuals, shop directives, and blueprints to ensure adherence to critical dimensions and key reference points.
  • Apply trade theories, formulas, and industry practices for calculating materials, troubleshooting, and resolving issues.
  • Utilize test equipment and measuring devices like verniers, micrometers, hydrostatic testers, and vibration analyzers.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, such as small lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and precision grinders to manufacture parts or machine existing components like bushings and couplings.
  • Use portable machine tools for onsite grinding and drilling.
  • Make necessary templates, jigs, and fixtures for repair or installation tasks.
