About The Position

This is an Engineering Technician I position in the Goldsboro Construction Resident Engineer’s Office. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials testing, materials sampling, erosion control inspection and construction traffic control audits on assigned projects. Work functions may include inspection for compliance and/or code; collection and analysis of field data; testing of materials; review and interpret design plans; analysis of engineering related data and/or product data. Duties may also include construction layout, measuring, staking, marking, and clearing brush. This position will perform other related duties as required. Additional expectations include the ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation; establish and maintain positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, contractors and public. Ability to traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Ability to work near high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished. Safety-toed shoes required. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
  • Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
  • Knowledge of standards and specifications.
  • Plan reading experience.
  • Ability to work near high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
  • Safety-toed shoes required.
