About The Position

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is seeking an Instrumentation/Engineering Technician I - IV to perform fabrication, installation, and operational support of instrumentation systems and wiring harnesses on various aircraft and test articles for the Aircraft Instrumentation Division (AID) of the Prototyping, Experimentation, and Instrumentation (PIE) Department at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, MD. This role involves supporting the VX-20 team with pre-flight and post-flight operations for E2D and P-8 platforms, flight test pods, and ground support equipment. The technician will also be responsible for wiring various instrumentation packages and platforms according to AID processes and procedures, assisting instrumentation operations engineers with maintenance, installation, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of E2D and P-8 instrumentation systems, and supporting on-aircraft ground testing. Additionally, the role includes performing instrumentation pre-flights, post-flights, and test flight support, which may involve travel to other test facilities and carriers. Work will also be performed in the Instrumentation Lab for troubleshooting and system checkout. Adherence to AVMI FOD and tool control policies, as well as all security facets (physical, AIS, document control, COMSEC, OPSEC, and security education), and instrumentation quality assurance inspections is required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation systems.
  • Willingness to work various shifts and weekends.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification within 60 days of start.
  • Ability to learn about the E2D and P-8 instrumentation system and support gear.
  • Knowledge of how to route and terminate wires in aircraft.
  • Exposure to FOD and tool control policies.
  • Understanding of the dangers of hazardous chemicals and knowledge of how to use PPE for protection.
  • Current Driver’s License required.
  • Must be able to be insured through the company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to hire date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • Must pass background screening (SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation).

Responsibilities

  • Perform fabrication, installation, and operational support of instrumentation systems and wiring harnesses on various aircraft and test articles.
  • Conduct pre-flight and post-flight operations for E2D and P-8 platforms, flight test pods, and ground support equipment (test carts, DRODI vans).
  • Wire various instrumentation packages and platforms according to AID processes and procedures.
  • Maintain, install, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot E2D and P-8 instrumentation systems.
  • Support on-aircraft ground testing.
  • Perform instrumentation pre-flights, post-flights, and test flight support, including data cartridge management and delivery.
  • Troubleshoot, install, and check out instrumentation systems in the Instrumentation Lab.
  • Conform to AVMI FOD and tool control policies.
  • Adhere to all facets of security, including physical, AIS, document control, COMSEC, OPSEC, and security education requirements.
  • Undergo instrumentation quality assurance inspections.
