About The Position
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Technician Contractor to perform precision assembly of optical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components. This role requires working in a Class 100 (ISO 5) clean room and laboratory environment, handling delicate components to extremely tight tolerances, and performing lapping to achieve demanding specifications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in precision assembly, preferably in a development or R&D setting with space applications. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering teams are essential.
Requirements
- 20+ years of precision assembly experience.
- Experience in a development or R&D environment strongly preferred.
- Experience building hardware for space applications strongly preferred.
- Experience with optical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical assembly.
- Comfort working in clean room environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to provide useful feedback to engineers and program teams.
- High School Diploma.
- Proven ability to be self-directed, decisive, and resourceful.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to rapidly gather information when things are unclear.
- Ability to handle ambiguity and keep execution moving when information is incomplete.
- Ability to learn fast and contribute immediately.
- Ability to lift and transport items up to 32 lbs.

Responsibilities
- Perform precision assembly of optical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components.
- Work in Class 100 (ISO 5) clean room and laboratory environments.
- Assemble, bond, and handle delicate, miniature components to extremely tight tolerances, including micron-level work.
- Perform lapping to achieve demanding flatness, parallelism, and angular requirements.
- Safely handle sensitive optical hardware such as lenses, mirrors, and optical subassemblies.
- Read and interpret manufacturing instructions, drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
- Maintain strict component traceability.
- Troubleshoot complex assembly issues and help determine effective corrective actions.
- Partner closely with engineering and cross-functional teams to improve assembly methods, documentation, and manufacturability.
- Drive continuous improvement to reduce errors, defects, scrap, and rework.
- Take initiative during downtime and independently move valuable work forward.
- Perform production work as directed.
