About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Technician to perform physical installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of specialized electronic security systems and network infrastructure supporting the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard (USCG). The primary focus of this role is field work, including complex cable infrastructure, and the deployment and maintenance of Access Control Systems (ACS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance systems at various secure facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess an Active DoD Secret clearance or be eligible to obtain an interim Secret clearance prior to start.
  • Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting CAT6 cabling and termination techniques.
  • Demonstrated to learn and become proficient in the following security systems: ACS, IDS, or CCTV.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with common network test equipment (e.g., cable testers, continuity testers).
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 50%, often on short notice, to various CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces and various weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Some low-voltage systems, or network cabling preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in low-voltage electrical installation, network cabling, or physical security systems integration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the full installation of physical security components, including door contacts, glass break sensors, motion detectors, control panels, and specialized sensors for Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).
  • Install, wire, and test Access Control System hardware, including card readers, biometric scanners, electric door strikes, magnetic locks, and Request-to-Exit (REX) devices.
  • Mount, aim, wire, and configure surveillance equipment, including IP cameras, encoders, Network Video Recorders (NVRs), and associated network switches for Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems.
  • Perform complete rack-and-stack installation of server equipment, network switches, KVMs, and supporting hardware according to engineered diagrams and specifications.
  • Lead and execute the installation of copper (CAT6/7) and fiber optic cable infrastructure in diverse environments (conduit, drop ceilings, open office, and outdoor cable trays).
  • Proficiently terminate and test all cables, including performing copper terminations (RJ-45, punch-down blocks) and fiber optic terminations/splices, ensuring compliance with TIA/EIA standards.
  • Maintain precise, as-built documentation and labeling records for all cable runs, security device locations, and infrastructure components.
  • Conduct hands-on troubleshooting and repair of newly installed and existing security and network systems, isolating faults in wiring, power, hardware, and network connectivity.
  • Perform corrective maintenance (repair) on Navy and Coast Guard security assets, including replacing faulty components and re-establishing system communication links.
  • Assist engineering teams with system testing, validation, and post-installation maintenance checks, using diagnostic tools (e.g., cable certifiers, multimeters).
