About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking an Engineering Technician 4 for their location in Plymouth, MN. This role involves working closely with the engineering team in an RF electronics prototype development laboratory, supporting research and development, engineering development, and transition-to-production efforts on a wide variety of product types with a strong focus on radio frequency (RF) circuits and telemetry systems. Duties include building, testing, and troubleshooting RF electronic circuit boards, test setups, cables, assemblies, and various assembly and test fixtures. The position provides technical support to engineers, gathers and maintains technical data, produces engineering documentation, reports, and drawings, and performs preliminary analyses of data. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, meticulous record keeping, strong computer aptitude, and excellent written and oral communication skills. With career progression, the individual would take on more responsibility, including complex build and test efforts, documenting hardware configurations, developing assembly processes and test procedures, and suggesting improvements to the engineering team. A strong work ethic, learning attitude, safety-oriented mindset, and the ability to work individually and as a team member in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Requirements

  • 6 years of electronics experience.
  • Strong understanding of electronics fundamentals and basic computer skills.
  • Able to read schematics and drawings.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to communicate effectively.
  • Basic soldering skills and ability to earn IPC J-STD-001 certification with provided training.
  • Familiarity with RF circuit test equipment including vector network analyzers, signal generators and analyzers, etc.
  • Ability to safely use basic hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and provide proof of citizenship.
  • Able to travel up to 25% of the time to support field testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree or 2 year certificate in electronics technology, or equivalent education.
  • Advanced understanding of electronics fundamentals, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong capabilities in fundamental and advanced RF and microwave concepts and measurement techniques.
  • Proficiency in the use of general lab equipment including oscilloscopes, signal generators, analyzers, and various meters.
  • High skill level soldering electronic assemblies for both surface mount and through-hole components.
  • Ability to create prototype electrical boards based on engineering schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Building, testing, and troubleshooting RF electronic circuit boards, test setups, cables, assemblies, and various assembly and test fixtures.
  • Provide technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
  • Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
  • Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
  • Perform preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as circuit and system performance, and antenna characterization.
  • Use personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.
  • Conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
  • Document hardware configurations.
  • Develop assembly processes and test procedures.
  • Make suggestions to the engineering team for improvements.
