About The Position

The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting an Engineering Technician 1 as an underfill for Engineering Technician 3 in the Aggregates Lab section of the Materials Division in Carson City, Nevada. The position prepares laboratory samples and performs physical tests on bituminous, concrete, aggregate, and soil samples, then calculates and records final results. Duties also include calibrating, maintaining, and cleaning laboratory testing equipment. Work involves hazardous materials and chemicals and requires eye and hearing protection and a dust mask. The technician must learn, interpret, and perform a variety of testing methods for these materials. Under close supervision of a higher-level technician or engineer, the incumbent learns to perform entry-level technical engineering tasks. The position may progress to the next level after meeting minimum qualifications, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and receiving approval from the appointing authority. The role is on-site and does not offer remote work. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; sponsorship is not available. Engineering Technicians support professional engineers through technical work such as testing, inspection, surveying, drafting, engineering calculations, and preparing engineering-related documents.
