About The Position

Provides engineering and technical support and technical assistance to inspection of revenue vehicles (Bus and Light Rail), Streetcars, Non-Revenue Vehicles (NRV) & equipment, parts, and components for the configuration management for the Operations Area of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Engineering Department.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Transportation Engineering, or related field.
• Two (2) years of engineering experience or cooperative education internship in an engineering environment.
• Proficiency on a personal computer (PC) and knowledge of software applications, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and/or other related software applications and office equipment, etc.
• Must have a valid Texas Drivers License (DL), no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months on driving record to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
• Ability to lift at least 30-50 pounds and climb ladders.
• Ability to work irregular hours and to be available to work on short notice.
• Also, must be able to travel to offsite locations, which may be out of the county or state for periods of time.
• Moderate analytical skills to find solutions to complex professional, technical, and administrative problems.
• Inspect equipment and tools such as small hand and electrical tools, pressurized equipment, gauges, etc., and fire and safety devices, and equipment to diagnose on-board electrical systems of the Authorities revenue fleet and facilities.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, contractors, vendors, and others both inside and outside of DART.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties relating to complex maintenance projects managing the resources and activities of the tool calibration program, oil analysis, warranty administration, tire leasing contracts, and technical responsibility for DARTs contracts.
• Monitors equipment, parts, and components to ensure compliance to technical specifications, performance standards, and contract compliance.
• Monitors work orders to ensure work is complete and according to specifications.
• Recognizes trends to identify problems and recommends action to correct problems.
• Prepares statistical analysis, interprets results, and demonstrates technical writing skills.
• Promotes established safety, training, technical support, and quality assurance programs.
• Develops or assists with the development of Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Practice Bulletins, Standard Campaign Bulletins, Statement of Work, and other documentation for preventative maintenance and quality assurances.
• Prepares a variety of reports for management review such as statistical analysis, parts trend/usage activities, service call reports, fluid analysis reports, etc.
• Develops or assists with developing contract Scope of Work to purchase new or potential equipment and parts, participating in pre-bid openings, conferences, and meetings.
• Identifies items through analysis for warranty, fleet defects, and system defects for recovery and/or upgrade with coordination through other sections and divisions until a resolution is identified and implemented.
• Conducts technical reviews of certification packets for product acceptance from suppliers.
• Participates on teams to provide quality input for the development, manufacture, procurement, and acceptance of a variety of products.
• Develops, writes, and edits detailed procedures for inspection and/or configuration management processes.
• Develops and monitors quality metrics, levels, and trends in support of department and agency goals.
• Analyzes and makes recommendations regarding product discrepancies.
• Evaluates opportunities for system/equipment defect prevention and implements preventative corrective actions.
• Provides support to engineering during design, RFP evaluations, and qualification processes.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and/or as needed.
