About The Position

The Engineering Supervisor, Facilities trains and supervises staff in applying construction, maintenance, and engineering principles to facility design, construction, and maintenance projects. This role involves developing and reviewing specifications, assigning and monitoring project tasks, assisting with budget preparation, and ensuring the effective application of construction techniques and standards. The supervisor will train and supervise employees in applying engineering, construction, and maintenance principles to project design and execution. Responsibilities include reviewing design drawings for compliance with division standards, codes, and best practices, and providing training in software applications such as spreadsheets and computer-aided drafting. The role also involves assisting with budgeting, preparing and reviewing specifications, and developing or updating standard specifications for future use. The supervisor will oversee project planning, prioritization, progress tracking, and cost estimation, and coordinate with contractors, architects, engineers, and internal stakeholders to define project scope, constraints, and requirements. Ensuring operating, maintenance, and safety procedures are established and communicated is key. The position provides civil/structural design consultation, develops repair solutions, and applies engineering seals as required. Planning and coordinating mandated facility upgrades for safety and environmental compliance, while staying current on engineering developments, codes, and regulations, is also part of the role. Other duties may be performed as directed.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Business, Facility Management, Project Management or related degree is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering including four (4) years of professional related experience in facilities design/construction OR Bachelor's degree in business, Facility Management, Project Management in Facilities/Construction including four (4) year of experience is required.
  • Two (2) years of leadership experience required.
  • Must successfully complete Supervisor Assessment Center training within 90 days of hire.
  • Must successfully complete NIMS Training within one (1) year of entering job.
  • Must have an occupationally significant combination of ability to apply engineering principles/techniques to departmental methods/materials.
  • Must have analytical ability to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to convey ideas effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to estimate and calculate a budget based on experience and assist with budgets of various projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
