About The Position

The Integrated Power Systems (IPS) directorate is seeking an engineering supervisor on 2nd shift to oversee the design completion and design maintenance, outfitting, and test of electric drive and electric power distribution systems. It is critical that we deliver COLUMBIA Class ships to the Navy on time, and deliver systems that work the first time, every time. Electric Boat’s goal is a 24/7 cadence of shipbuilding to meet the Navy’s demands and the IPS directorate is staffing up to support. Success in this position will be a key element to meeting these goals. This position is for 2nd shift. When you first start it would likely be on first shift for training and familiarization before moving to 2nd shift.

Requirements

  • B.S. in an engineering discipline
  • 4 years of related post-graduate engineering experience
  • At least 2 years previous leadership experience in a lead-type or supervisory role
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the U.S. DoD (candidates must be a U.S. citizen)

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify problems and solve them, ensuring no barriers to the shipyard receiving, installing, and testing IPS equipment for COLUMBIA Class ships.
  • Work closely with the D476 Waterfront Engineering group and the IPS directorate to coordinate efforts and ensure no gaps or overlaps in engineering deck plate leadership of IPS components and systems.
  • Build and develop a team of proactive and problem-solving engineers.
  • Build relationships with shipyard personnel and other waterfront engineering resources to get ahead of problems, holdups, and delays.
  • Lead a team conducting detailed build plan reviews for IPS equipment, ensure output is reflected in construction network schedules, and transfer knowledge for future improvements.
  • Work closely with IPS engineering component and system owners to coordinate directorate efforts for successful IPS equipment installation and tests.
  • Set performance goals for the team and hold them accountable.
  • Work across functional areas to maintain a clear outlook of efforts and resources required for successful delivery of an electric drive system.
  • Ensure team compliance with department and Electric Boat processes, supporting regular process audits and the TPQ program.
  • Lead by example using Electric Boat’s Core Values and ensure the team lives by those values.
