About The Position

The Supervisor of Lighting Engineering will train, direct and supervise engineering/drafting support employees engaged in the development of requirements, service designs, system modifications of electric distribution, networks, streetlight systems and leased lights. This role involves training, directing, and supervising employees within an area, including selecting, transferring, promoting, disciplining, and handling grievances. The position requires scheduling, assigning, and coordinating employee work, as well as facilitating and communicating activities with other areas, departments, and outside parties. Responsibilities include planning and directing layout designs for modifications, alterations, and additions to electric distribution, network, and street lighting systems. The supervisor will review and approve site locations, engineering designs, and calculations, providing technical advice and assistance to engineers, designers, customers, and contractors. Additionally, the role involves preparing and verifying various reports and records, monitoring construction compliance with standards and NESC guidelines, and determining when construction changes are necessary. The supervisor must stay updated on industry trends and technical developments and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.
  • Must have a Professional Engineer License in the State of Tennessee.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering is required.
  • Must have experience as a Level 3 Engineer or higher in designing electric distribution facilities and/or systems.
  • Must successfully complete Supervisor Assessment Center training within 90 days of hire.
  • Must successfully complete NIMS Training within one (1) year of entering job.
  • Must have an occupationally significant combination of leadership abilities to motivate and direct employees; intellectual capacity to comprehend and apply engineering, scientific or technical principles/methods, mathematical ability, proven analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • customer relations skills; integrity; oral/written communications skills; and ability to work as a team and promote safe work practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pole attachment process and guidelines, customer premise systems, lighting systems, and/ or network distribution systems are preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Train, direct and supervise employees within an area, responsible for selecting employees, transfer, promote, discipline, handle grievances and other supervisory functions.

  • Plan and direct layout design for modifications/alterations and additions of attachments to facilitate on electric distribution, network, street lighting systems and leased lights.
  • Review and approve site locations, engineering designs and calculations; apply engineering principles and provide engineering information, technical advice, and assistance to engineers, designers, customers, contractors, etc. and information/instructions to employees and resolve problems.
  • Prepare, evaluate and verify various reports/records such as area budget, specifications, cost estimates, permits, commencement and termination agreements, engineering policies/rules and requirements, performance appraisals, time sheets and inventories.
  • Monitor agreements and licensee attachment construction compliance with standards policies, procedures, design engineering practices and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) guidelines.
  • Determine when a construction change should be made while a sketch/project is in progress; develop and issue corrective measures and actions.
  • Stay abreast of Division policies and up-to-date industry trends and technical developments, requirements and procedures related to attachments to Division’s electrical distribution facilities, street lighting systems and leased lights.
  • Operate Division vehicle and computer applications software and office hardware.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and or directed.
