This posting is for the vacant Engineering Supervisor II in Eastern Field Operations groups in the Structures Management Unit. This position will supervise work groups in preparation of designs and detailed plans for construction, preservation, rehabilitation or critical repairs of highway structures. Reviews design calculations and plans to ensure that they are complete and correct. Manages structure projects by coordinating with Divisions and other units within NCDOT and outside agencies to obtain approvals, permits, and agreements. Submits completed plans to meet scheduled contract lettings or critical repair needs. This position requires moderate to advanced understanding of engineering principles for highway related structures (e.g., bridges, culverts, and walls) including design, rehabilitation, preservation, or critical repair projects. Regular duties may include: •Supervising a team of engineers and drafters to complete designs and detailed plans for new construction, repair, preservation, and rehabilitation including preparing final package of plans, special provisions and designs to meet contract lettings •Supervising a team to provide load ratings and analysis of load carrying capacity for various structure types. •Providing technical support to Divisions for bridge repair and rehabilitation as well as construction errors or concerns with completed work. •Coordinating with Division, other units, and outside entities to improve understanding of possible field concerns and improve plan construction. The selected applicant for this position must have knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts and practices related to bridge repair, preservation, rehabilitation, and replacement projects. Ability to identify and plan for resources. Ability to explain/write related facts in a clear, concise and organized manner to individuals and groups. Ability to listen to and respond appropriately to others. Ability to climb bridge structures and scaffolds. Ability to keep accurate notes and records. Knowledge and ability in drafting and the use of a computer.
