About The Position

Dorman is seeking several Engineering Interns for a 10-week Summer 2027 internship on the Mechanical Engineering Service Team, which supports the Product Engineering organization in mechanical design, prototyping, and metrology. Interns will contribute to team projects, with performance monitored to support learning and development. At the conclusion of the internship, interns will present project details to the leadership team.

The internship offers opportunities to learn how to scan, model, and print mechanical parts; understand 3D scanning and additive manufacturing; and improve the tools and processes used by the team. The US base rate for this full-time position is $21 per hour. Actual pay depends on job-related knowledge and skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay equity.

Requirements

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Demonstrated communication ability.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with vehicle systems, including body and electronics.
• Experience with 3D CAD and/or CAM.
• Knowledge of 3D printing and/or machining.
• Actively pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a similar engineering-related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Use laboratory best practices to prepare sample parts for evaluation.
• Perform internal product dimensional testing in the laboratory and create documentation.
• Record testing data in standard formats and provide results to product and engineering teams.
• Coordinate with product teams to create CAD models, prototype parts, drawings, and documentation based on acquired data, independently or with support.
• Interpret 3D models and 2D drawings to create or assemble prototypes.
• Maintain a Lean/5S environment.
• Present project details to the leadership team at the conclusion of the internship.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
