Engineering Services Front End Engineering - Coop Student
About The Position
As a Front-End Engineering Student, you will join the Front-End Engineering (FEE) team within the Engineering Services department at Irving Oil. This team’s operational foundation is ‘go slow to go fast’ and is dedicated to delivering high-quality engineering solutions that drive better results, reduce costs, and accelerate project execution to improve overall predictability. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience with the Front-End Loading (FEL) process, which plays a critical role in shaping project outcomes. FEL 1: Learn how to assess and validate business opportunities while identifying potential project options. FEL 2: Support the translation of business intent into defined project deliverables while narrowing options to a single solution and identifying the minimum technical scope required. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with project sponsors and stakeholders in a high-influence, low-cost environment, contributing to strategic initiatives from the earliest stages of development. This team is located withing the Irving Oil home office in Saint John, however you will also have an opportunity to participate in field walks at our Saint John Refinery.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree
- Must have completed at least 1 year of post-secondary education and be returning to school
- Comfortable delivering impactful presentations to internal team and various stakeholders
- Proactive problem solving
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications
Responsibilities
- Engage, actively participate, and independently develop Front-End Engineering (FEE) deliverables to meet quality standards, schedules, and project budgets
- Collaborate and liaise with project sponsors
- Become familiar with FEE team workflows, deliverables, and execution processes
- Provide active support across multiple project fronts, including but not limited to: Major Investment Projects (MIP), Through Life Engineering (TLE), Sustaining Capital Projects, Business Case Development
