About The Position

As an Electrical Engineering student, you will be part of the Engineering Services department, located within our Irving Oil Home Office in Saint John. As a student, you will have the opportunity to support refinery projects and gain firsthand experience across the full electrical engineering project lifecycle. This includes exposure to design development, field inspections, drafting, software tools, and project execution. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to support both capital and turnaround projects at the Irving Oil Refinery, terminals, and energy transition initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to explore core electrical engineering responsibilities in an industrial setting, including Electric Heat Tracing, Power Distribution, and ETAP model simulations. You will also participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing engineering processes and delivering long-term value.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines
  • Must have completed at least 1 year of post-secondary education and be returning to school
  • Skilled in relationship management and comfortable working with cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adaptable and fluid with change, able to pivot as project needs evolve
  • Open to feedback and capable of critical thinking

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of Engineering Work Orders (EWOs), Material Requisitions, Engineering Hour Estimates, and Material Take-Offs (MTOs)
  • Revise and develop electrical drawings using AutoCAD; support 3D modeling and Computrace software for heat tracing applications
  • Participate in site visits, field walks, and electrical substation inspections to understand how designs are implemented in real-world conditions
  • Review Canadian Electrical Code sections, Equity Internal/Industry Specifications, and drawings to verify field application and compliance
