About The Position

KBR is seeking an Engineering Project Manager at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX. In this role, you will perform project management and subtask lead responsibilities in the HHPC2 Engineering Department’s Project Management Group, representing the contract for the Lavatory On-Orbit (LOO) and Waste Management Consumables (WMC) project for the Human Landing System (HLS) Program. You will lead major hardware/software activities for flight units, ground systems, off-site laboratory equipment, accessories, and unique testing equipment. You will be required to perform integration of Engineering Department disciplines, Quality, Bond, and Logistics on a weekly basis. You will provide inputs to support multi-year Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE). Your NASA counterpart will be in the Crew and Thermal Systems Division of the Engineering Directorate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, or project management
  • 8+ years’ experience as a project manager, project engineer, systems engineer, subtask lead, or similar role in the aerospace industry
  • Previous working experience with NASA or a NASA contractor
  • Experience in customer interfacing role
  • Cost account management experience and reporting
  • Experience and understanding of configuration management for documentation and hardware/software
  • Experience leading negotiations with subcontractors/vendors and completing procurement
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional conduct, including the ability to integrate quickly into and lead a small team and represent the contract with integrity
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently with minimal supervision, and make and communicate the rationale behind key decisions in a constantly evolving fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to take on ownership of projects and direct them from beginning to end
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented
  • Strong time management skills with a high level of intuition and judgment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Project
  • Experience with Flight Hardware Development processes as outlined in SA-WI-014 and/or EA-WI-023
  • Experience in managing spaceflight projects of different sizes from start to finish
  • Experience in organization of technical reviews for life cycle milestones
  • Previous experience with Human Systems Engineering such as human factors and designing for the product end-user

Responsibilities

  • Manage the technical scope oversight, budget estimating and monitoring, schedule development and maintenance, and risk development and monitoring
  • Manage expectations and communication with contract and customer stakeholders including organization of regular meetings to support successful product delivery
  • Manage development of documents and products for human spaceflight including plans, requirements, safety, flight certification, and hardware delivery
  • Organize and lead internal engineering meetings to support schedule development and maintenance, mitigate potential issues and develop client-friendly solutions in coordination with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in ISO/AS9100 Audits
