About The Position

Join MDI Hospital and Health Centers as a Full-Time Engineering Mechanic II. In this role, you'll help keep our buildings, equipment, and facilities running smoothly by performing maintenance, repairs, and improvements throughout the hospital and health centers. You'll work independently on a variety of skilled maintenance tasks with limited supervision.

Requirements

  • High School/GED graduate.
  • Licensed boiler operator in the State of Maine.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Valid and current Journeyman’s License or equivalent in particular trade or valued skill.
  • Relevant experience needed in order to maintain valid Journeyman’s license or equivalent skill.
  • Ability to be on feet most of the day.
  • Ability to lift, pull and push equipment.
  • Ability to stoop and reach.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Adequate vision and manual skills.
  • Ability to work on roof or other high places such as ladders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and improvements throughout the hospital and health centers.
  • Work independently on a variety of skilled maintenance tasks with limited supervision.
  • Perform and supervise a variety of general semiskilled to skilled maintenance, alteration and repair to machinery, equipment or facilities in accordance with basic skills, abilities, and standard procedures, diagrams, or manufacturers' instructions.
  • Perform routine electrical maintenance, replacement or alteration of circuit wiring, switches, control equipment and mechanisms, motors, transformers, relays, generators, appliances, fixtures, alarms, communication equipment, etc.
  • Perform general plumbing maintenance such as: maintain, repair and make alterations to steam, gas, water, air and sanitary plumbing pipes and fixtures; bend, cut seams, and thread pipe, wipe joints, test joints, and pipe systems for leaks; repair and replace valves, repair leaks, and clean drain stoppages.
  • Perform general welding -- welding, cutting, joining metals not requiring critical test tolerance or certification.
  • Read and understand blueprints.
  • Assess a situation and assign tasks according to individual staff ability.
  • Solve problems and conflicts in a positive way.
  • Plan for the future and advise Engineering Supervisor of needed changes.
  • Keep a clear head in an emergency situation.
