  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to contribute to architecture discussions, evaluate system designs, review code, and guide engineers.
  • Track record of shipping products in fast-paced environments with a focus on rapid iteration, high-quality code, and consistent delivery.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching and developing engineers, managing performance, delivering actionable feedback, and building high-performing teams.
  • Strong ability to prioritize work, coordinate dependencies, remove blockers, and drive projects from planning through production.
  • Pragmatic approach to engineering excellence, balancing speed, quality, and reliability with lightweight processes.
  • Comfortable operating in a small, high-ownership startup environment with quickly moving priorities and ambiguity.
  • Clear communicator and collaborative leader capable of aligning engineers and stakeholders, setting expectations, and fostering accountability, autonomy, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading engineering teams at early-stage or high-growth startups.
  • Experience building production systems in healthcare, fintech, or other environments where reliability, security, and data privacy are critical.
  • Familiarity with Python, Ruby, JavaScript, Go, GCP, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience implementing or improving engineering practices around CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and production reliability.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) or helping teams adopt AI-driven development workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of 4-5 engineers, including performance management, coaching, mentorship, career development, and feedback.
  • Drive engineering velocity and execution by keeping the team focused, aligned, and unblocked, improving prioritization, coordination, and delivery.
  • Establish and reinforce high standards for code quality, system reliability, technical decision-making, and operational excellence.
  • Stay technically engaged by partnering with engineers on architecture, system design, and code reviews, providing hands-on technical guidance and contributing code when appropriate.
  • Build a culture of ownership and accountability by setting clear expectations, developing individual contributors, identifying performance gaps, and empowering engineers.
  • Continuously improve engineering processes to identify bottlenecks, reduce rework, and enhance productivity.
  • Champion AI-assisted development by helping the team leverage AI coding tools and workflows.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to align priorities, improve execution, and scale the engineering organization.

Benefits

  • $250,000 - $300,000 base salary and equity package (early exercise, extended exercise).
  • Great health benefits (health, dental, and vision).
  • Unlimited paid time off (PTO) and holiday schedule.
  • Regular company off-sites and engineering meetups.
