About The Position

Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of the engineering department to design, manufacture, and test components, products, and related tooling by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees. This role is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of the engineering department, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Blueprint reading a must.
Proficiency with handheld measuring instruments like calipers and micrometers.
Good people skills.

Responsibilities

Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
Provides cost estimates for production parts.
Directs and coordinates activities of engineering personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budgets.
Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
Reviews and approves design changes.
Works with designers to meet design standards.
Directs purchasing activities for tooling and outside services.
May be required to perform some duties of process, mechanical, and electrical engineering in their absence.
Utilizes CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to help understand unplanned equipment downtime, implement predictive maintenance solutions, and optimize performance.
