Engineering Manager

OneImaging•Miami, FL
•$140,000 - $190,000

About The Position

OneImaging is seeking an experienced, senior IC-first Engineering Manager (player/coach) focused on healthcare integrations. The role architects the platform layer connecting provider networks, care navigator operations, and clinical workflows. It combines production-level coding, service development, and ownership of critical systems with architectural leadership and engineer mentorship. Direct contribution, coding, system design, and problem-solving are the primary modes of leadership. The Engineering Manager drives architecture decisions across services interfacing with new and existing PostgreSQL databases, guides adoption of healthcare data standards such as FHIR/HL7 and DICOM, and ensures the platform can meet healthcare demands at scale. The role partners with Product and DevOps to build efficient, reliable, secure, compliant, observable, and cost-transparent services.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 8+ years of backend engineering experience involving production-level software development and architectural responsibilities.
  • Strong expertise in Python, TypeScript/Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
  • Proven ability to design fault-tolerant, high-availability distributed systems and contribute hands-on in codebases.
  • Hands-on experience with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, DICOM) and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, SOC-II).
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers without direct management responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms, and cost optimization.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS services including S3, Fargate, App Runner, and Route 53.
  • Experience with data pipelines and integrations with Databricks (file ingestion and BI integration), or equivalent large-scale data platforms.
  • Familiarity with DICOM operations, processing, and interfacing with PACS systems.
  • Background in healthtech, insurance tech, or other regulated industries.
  • Exposure to multi-agent systems, such as LLMs and OCR, to streamline workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement backend services interfacing with PostgreSQL and Databricks to support business verticals, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability; write production-grade code and lead by example.
  • Design and oversee data adapters integrating with external imaging facilities, payers, and TPAs, adhering to healthcare data standards including FHIR/HL7 and DICOM.
  • Conduct code reviews, set coding standards, and promote engineering best practices for high-quality, secure, and compliant codebases.
  • Design systems for reliability and graceful degradation as order volume scales; extend fault-tolerance, error reporting, load and stress testing to services; establish recovery strategies and observability standards.
  • Write engineering documentation covering architecture choices, technical milestones, and steps to achieve epic, feature, and service goals.
  • Mentor backend and full-stack engineers, while spending the majority of time coding and architecting systems.
  • Partner with Product to translate business goals into efficient, value-driven technical solutions; make tradeoffs explicit and challenge incorrectly scoped solutions with relevant evidence.
  • Collaborate with DevOps to embed CI/CD, observability, security, and cost transparency into every service.

Benefits

  • Equity incentive plan participation
  • Competitive benefits plans
