About The Position

The Engineering Manager will lead a team of four engineers on Etsy’s UX AI Enablement team, part of the User Experience Platform group. The team builds and maintains an internal AI-assisted native Mac app that helps Etsy designers, product managers, and engineers create and edit interactive prototypes aligned with Etsy’s Design System, without coding. The tool supports exploration and testing of web and iOS experiences, with Android development planned. The manager will guide the team’s work and coordinate with Design, Product, Research, Engineering, and Design Systems. Etsy engineering managers focus on coaching and orchestrating engineers rather than hands-on software development. The role owns the team roadmap with cross-functional partners, supports adoption across Etsy, sets quality standards for the tool and its AI output, and invests in engineers’ growth. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering, UX Platform.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience directly managing engineers who ship user-facing software, including leadership, mentorship, feedback, and career development.
Track record of shipping user-facing software to customers.
Experience building products that use generative AI.
Understanding of good systems design.
Ability to make engineering tradeoffs based on the problem and context.
Ability to collaborate effectively with junior and senior team members.

Nice To Haves

Hands-on depth in native app development, preferred; web front-end development experience is an alternative.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of four engineers building and maintaining the AI-assisted prototyping tool and bringing it to Android.
Coach, mentor, and advocate for engineers; provide regular feedback and invest in their career growth.
Own the team roadmap with Product, Design, and Research, prioritizing work against outcomes such as adoption across Etsy teams.
Sequence engineering plans and balance them against team capacity.
Partner with the product manager to set adoption goals and coordinate rollout with Design Systems and product teams.
Ensure the team incorporates user feedback into the roadmap.
Set quality standards for the tool, including how to measure the quality of its AI output.
Participate in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding.
Foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and thoughtful delivery.
