About The Position

Numeric is building the modern financial data platform for accounting and finance, addressing the limitations of outdated software in the accounting space. We are leveraging AI and modern technology to solve complex data problems for accountants, empowering them to achieve verifiable financial data faster and make better business decisions. We are hiring our first dedicated Engineering Manager to lead our engineering teams in NYC. This is a player-coach role where you will manage and grow a team of engineers while remaining hands-on with code and system design to build trust and credibility. We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing engineers, enjoys the details, and thrives on making others better.

Requirements

6+ years of experience building software, including meaningful time as a hands-on engineer.
2+ years directly managing engineers, with real ownership of hiring, performance, and team output.
High motivation and agency.
Genuine enjoyment of managing engineers and developing people.
Ability to build trust on teams and make hard calls on people and priorities.
Willingness to stay technical, go deep on system design, review code and architecture decisions.
Ability to earn credibility with the team by being a good collaborator.
Finding learning a new, complex domain to be an exciting challenge.
Commitment to high-quality work combined with a desire to win and tackle ambitious goals.
Desire to help build the management function, including process, rituals, and bar-setting.
Ability to balance scaling with pragmatism about the right amount of process for the stage of growth.
Care about good abstractions and building good product.

Nice To Haves

Experience managing teams in complex, technical domains.
Fintech or accounting-adjacent/fintech experience.
Experience founding a business, building products from scratch, or being an early engineering hire who grew into management.
A track record in hiring.

Responsibilities

Lead the team building the ingestion, transformation, and lineage infrastructure for the data platform.
Own the delivery of the experience for defining, composing, and drilling into structured financial reports.
Guide the team developing the core engine for structuring financial data and automating manual work.
Lead a team building complex accounting workflows, including dependency management, automation, and AI-native experiences.
Protect and amplify the culture that maximizes great work.
Ensure your team is solving the end problems of the users.
Show up and execute in each domain every day.
Focus on the craft and a deep sense of engagement and motivation.
