About The Position

Recruiting from Scratch is seeking an Engineering Manager for a profitable, high-growth, employee-owned startup in the healthcare/data infrastructure space. This remote role (United States) involves leading a cross-functional team of approximately 8 engineers focused on fullstack development and data pipelines. The company is building critical data infrastructure for sophisticated healthcare systems, serving large enterprise organizations. They have strong product-market fit and are experiencing rapid growth, focusing on delivering real-world impact. The Engineering Manager will drive execution of high-impact features, ensure scalable system delivery, mentor engineers, contribute to architecture, and collaborate with various internal teams. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys building and scaling teams while remaining technically involved in a complex, data-driven environment.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of engineering management experience, ideally leading cross-functional or fullstack teams
  • 4+ years of prior hands-on software engineering experience building backend or data systems
  • Proven ability to mentor, grow, and retain engineers across different levels
  • Strong technical foundation in Python, SQL, JavaScript, and cloud-based systems
  • Experience working with data pipelines, ETL/ELT systems, or data-intensive applications
  • Ability to balance technical leadership with delivery execution in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, supply chain, or enterprise SaaS environments
  • Background managing teams working on complex data systems or data quality challenges
  • Familiarity with data governance, reconciliation, and large-scale data modeling
  • Experience working within agile development environments

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a cross-functional team of ~8 engineers across fullstack development and data pipelines
  • Drive execution of high-impact features and ensure reliable, scalable system delivery
  • Partner closely with Product and technical leadership to define requirements, plan sprints, and manage backlog
  • Mentor and develop engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and career growth planning
  • Establish and enforce best practices across coding, testing, deployment, and system design
  • Contribute to architecture decisions and provide hands-on technical guidance when needed
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Customer Success, Implementation, and Sales
  • Support hiring and onboarding to scale a high-performing engineering team
