Engineering Manager

Amplitude•San Francisco, CA
•$254,000 - $381,000

About The Position

Amplitude is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Data Infrastructure team within Statsig Experiment. The manager will lead a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists responsible for the systems powering experimentation at scale. The team owns data ingestion across SDKs, streaming systems, cloud storage, and customer data warehouses; distributed computation that turns raw data into timely, accurate experiment results; and the statistical engine that enables trustworthy decisions from experiments. The role sets technical and scientific direction, translating statistical methods and machine learning research into reliable customer-facing capabilities. The manager will partner with data scientists, engineers, product managers, and customers to advance experimentation across Statsig Cloud and warehouse-native deployments. This includes evolving data and computation architecture for increasingly complex experiment designs, metrics, and customer datasets, and turning customer challenges into platform and methodology improvements. The successful candidate connects statistical innovation, data architecture, and customer needs, and has experience leading teams building data-intensive products. The role is eligible for equity, benefits, and other forms of compensation. Listed total target cash ranges vary by work location: Colorado, California outside the San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington: $227,000–$341,000; New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area: $254,000–$381,000.

Requirements

  • Experience leading teams of 5–10 team members building and productionizing statistically rigorous, data-intensive products.
  • Familiarity with experimentation methods such as variance reduction, sequential testing, Bayesian inference, causal effects modeling, or heterogeneous treatment effects.
  • Experience building large-scale data ingestion and distributed computation systems across cloud and data warehouse environments.
  • Ability to connect statistical innovation, data architecture, and customer needs to define an experimentation roadmap.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or another quantitative field.
  • Experience with experimentation platforms, feature management systems, product analytics, or machine learning infrastructure.
  • Experience building warehouse-native products or executing computation within Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or similar environments.
  • Experience supporting experimentation for large-scale consumer products, B2B products, marketplaces, social networks, or other settings with complex units of analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the team responsible for Statsig’s data ingestion, experiment computation, and stats engine.
  • Define the technical and scientific strategy for advancing experimentation across Statsig Cloud and warehouse-native deployments.
  • Partner with data scientists and engineers to turn statistical and causal inference methods into scalable, reliable product capabilities.
  • Evolve data and computation architecture to support increasingly complex experiment designs, metrics, and customer datasets.
  • Engage with customers to understand experimentation challenges and translate them into platform and methodology improvements.

Benefits

  • Equity and other forms of compensation.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with 100% employer-paid premiums for employees on select plans.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match of up to 1% of eligible pay each pay period, up to $2,000 annually.
  • Flexible time off and paid holidays.
  • Monthly wellness stipends and commuter transit/parking stipends.
  • Quarterly learning and development stipends.
  • New-hire home office equipment stipend.
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Carrot fertility, adoption, and surrogacy support.
  • Back-up child care support.
  • No-cost employee access to Modern Health coaching and therapy sessions.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP).
  • Charitable giving grant and paid volunteer time off.
  • For Washington-only roles: unlimited PTO, 10 to 13 holidays annually, medical, dental, and vision PPO and CDHP plans, and a company-sponsored 401(k) retirement plan.
