Engineering Manager (Agentic Orchestration and Loan Origination)

Caribou FinancialChicago, IL
$174,000 - $217,000Remote

About The Position

Caribou is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead an established team of 10 engineers focused on building the Loan Origination System (LOS)/CRM platform. This role is crucial for developing agentic orchestration to automate repetitive, high-volume aspects of the refinance process, allowing the team to focus on complex applications requiring human judgment. The manager will also guide the team's adoption of agentic engineering practices across all repositories using Claude Code, aiming for top-tier productivity. The team is new to agentic orchestration, and a key objective within the first year is for them to handle the full range of routine refinance steps, with the human team focusing on exceptions and judgment calls. This role offers opportunities to develop management and architecture skills while expanding scope as success is demonstrated.

Requirements

  • Prior experience leading engineers who build and operate production applications and back-end integrations.
  • Experience guiding a team's shift to agentic engineering, or integrating AI into existing products for significant business value.
  • Customer-focused leadership with a passion for well-crafted software and a commitment to personal leadership and engineering skill development.
  • Experience leading a distributed team across time zones, including nearshore or offshore engineers.
  • Full-stack understanding of production software systems, covering hosts, HTML, models, MCP, databases, DNS, runtimes, and REST.
  • Collaborative, people-first leadership style that prioritizes context over command and control.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage the team: hiring, coaching, performance conversations, and career growth for ten engineers.
  • Review designs, weigh trade-offs with senior engineers, and understand system functionality without directly shipping features.
  • Maintain codebase health across quarters, including advocating for the resolution of technical debt with Product.
  • Grow the team's agentic engineering practice through mentoring and pairing, advancing each engineer's capabilities.
  • Lead production health for the team's services, including on-call rotation, alerts, monitoring, incident response, and follow-up.
  • Guide secure Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for the team, including vulnerability patching, threat modeling for new agentic surfaces, and ensuring origination workflows remain audit-ready under SOC 2 and GLBA.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Security, and Data teams, translating Product roadmaps into buildable solutions.
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers to define engineering practices at Caribou.

  • 401k savings program
  • Generous paid time off including Flexible Time Off (FTO)
