Engineering Manager - AI Experiences, Copilot Engineering
About The Position
Microsoft is hiring an Engineering Manager in Copilot Engineering to build AI experiences for Windows. The team develops frontier AI experiences, including agentic actions, background autopilot experiences, computer-use agents that operate across apps, and hybrid compute spanning devices and the cloud. Its goal is to make Windows an AI-first operating system. The role leads a team building experiences at the intersection of modality and intelligence, moving ideas from prototype to customer use in a fast-paced, high-ambiguity environment. The manager will help define how people interact with AI, lead full-stack engineering work, contribute hands-on to code and infrastructure, and deliver products used by millions. Employees in AI Experiences who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft Hub in the U.S. are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 10+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
Nice To Haves
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 12+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; or bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 15+ years of such experience; or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of people management experience.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a team of full-stack engineers, driving project planning, prioritization, and feature design.
- Guide teams in identifying dependencies and developing design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Make hands-on contributions to the codebase and infrastructure.
- Lead architecture and design discussions, create proposals and design documents, and ensure solutions meet business, security, and compliance requirements.
- Ship AI-powered experiences that shape how millions of people interact with AI.
- Drive implementation of features and systems, breaking long-term goals into milestones, aligning with release plans, and ensuring cross-team coordination.
