About The Position

Engineering & Technology Innovation (E&TI) is Boeing's global research and development team, focused on creating and implementing innovative technologies for the future of aerospace. The Specialty Materials and Integration team in St. Louis, MO, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead Materials and Process (M&P) Research and Development support for Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) development programs. This group is responsible for providing M&P support, leading materials development (typically non-metallic), and identifying, developing, transitioning, and producing specialty materials and technologies for BDS platforms. The role offers a dynamic and rich learning environment, allowing the individual to lead the development of M&P Engineers and Technicians, execute deliverables for multiple projects including materials development, production maturation, and vertical materials production, and lead the operation of three different lab spaces. Projects and lab operations will require leading an integrated team. Ideal candidates will possess experience, abilities, and passion in composites, chemical/contamination, sub-systems, or low observable materials and processes, with a desire to broaden their knowledge and become a leader in these integrated fields.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership"
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 10 Engineers and Technicians
  • Develop M&P Engineers and Technicians
  • Responsible for the execution and delivery of materials and processes solutions for BDS programs and external customers through the IRAD and CRAD process.
  • Lead the evaluation and qualification of materials, suppliers, equipment, technology and processes to ensure that conformance and producibility requirements are met
  • Apply knowledge of material design, analysis, and test in order to guide development, characterization, and qualification of proprietary materials for application to air vehicle products
  • Lead the development of engineering processes, methods, and tools
  • Lead operations in a three research and development facilities producing materials, associated manufacturing, and application processes.
  • Make routine contact with customers, teaming partners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplined integrated product team, working alongside other skilled technicians, engineers, and support staff
  • Guide test development, routine analysis of failed parts and processes, generation of data to evaluate failed mechanisms and documentation of findings
  • Guide development and revision of documents and technical requirements
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts in design, fabrication, testing of new concepts and technology to include laboratory operations.
