Engineering Manager, Tax Platform
About The Position
The Tax Platform team builds and operates the real-time tax calculation engine that powers every transaction at DoorDash — from customer orders to subscriptions, merchant fees, ads, etc. As a tier-0 service calculating tax on every cart and order across all business lines and verticals, the Tax Platform is critical to DoorDash’s reliability and compliance with complex, ever-evolving tax regulations across all jurisdictions. We partner closely with Strategy & Ops, Tax, Finance, Legal, and various Product teams to ensure accurate tax calculation, reporting, and remittance at scale. DoorDash is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Tax Platform engineering team. You will own the vision, roadmap, and execution for one of DoorDash’s most critical product platforms — a tier-0 service that touches every transaction across DoorDash’s global business. You will tackle complex technical challenges at the intersection of distributed systems, regulatory compliance, and financial accuracy, while building a high-performing engineering team. You must be located in Toronto, Canada for this hybrid position.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in an engineering management role leading product or platform teams.
- A track record of building and operating high-scale, high-reliability distributed systems — you understand what it takes to keep a tier-0 service running.
- Strong technical judgment and can balance system reliability, developer velocity, and product needs effectively.
- Passionate about growing engineers and building inclusive, collaborative teams that deliver consistently.
- Thrive in ambiguity and can drive clarity across complex, cross-functional problem spaces involving engineering, finance, legal, product and business stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve a tier-0 platform that processes taxes on every transaction at DoorDash, directly impacting revenue accuracy and regulatory compliance across all regions, business lines & verticals
- Solve uniquely complex engineering problems at the intersection of real-time distributed systems and financial compliance, spanning various businesses at DoorDash
- Build and lead a high-performing engineering team, investing in people through mentorship, career development, and a culture of technical excellence
- Partner with Strategy & Operations, Tax, Finance, Legal, and product teams across the company to shape how DoorDash approaches tax compliance as it rapidly scales across verticals and geographies
- Drive meaningful impact on DoorDash’s global business — every improvement to tax accuracy and system reliability has direct, measurable business outcomes
