Engineering Manager, Social Foundations

As an Engineering Manager at Duolingo, you will be responsible for leading a team that focuses on developing social features for the Duolingo app and increasing their adoption. This includes owning key features such as avatars, user profiles, and the friend network, as well as expanding the usage of social features to the large user base of over 72 million monthly active users. Your team will work on creating fun and engaging features that allow learners to interact with their friends, ultimately impacting the top-line Daily Active Users metric. This role requires experience in software engineering team leadership, setting technical direction, and effective communication skills.

• Define strategies and roadmap for social features used across Duolingo learning apps
• Shape key decisions about architecture and implementation of scalable and high-quality engineering solutions
• Drive the planning, execution, and success of elegant technical projects
• Lead a team of software engineers to deliver new social features that make a large impact on the growth of Duolingo user base
• Experience in developing and leading a software engineering team and setting technical direction
• Proven track record as an effective people manager with experience in mentoring and coaching team members
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Extensive experience in fast-growing, consumer-facing, data-driven companies, ideally in the domain of social network technology
