About The Position

Omada Health is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a squad focused on building the company's Member-facing systems. This role involves owning the squad's execution from prototype to production, including maintenance and on-call responsibilities. The Engineering Manager will guide the squad's work, prioritize tasks, and foster the professional growth of its members. A key aspect of this role is shipping code alongside the team, maintaining a hands-on connection to the codebase and workflows to better understand and address team friction. The manager will collaborate closely with a Product Strategist, who defines what the squad builds and why, while the Engineering Manager ensures the feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and timeliness of delivery. This includes setting quality and operational standards, and empowering the team with appropriate tools and processes.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 years managing engineers or equivalent team leadership experience.
  • Proven track record of shipping mission-critical software to production and managing its lifecycle.
  • Experience owning team prioritization and estimation, including the ability to say 'no' or 'not now' with clear explanations.
  • Experience providing direct developmental feedback and managing underperformance with support.
  • Currently shipping or recently shipping production code in at least one of the following areas: backend (Ruby, Python), web frontends (React), iOS, or Android.
  • Comfort with an expert-generalist team model, understanding its risks and opportunities.
  • Hands-on experience directing AI agents for production changes and a considered view on their effectiveness.
  • Understanding of CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and telemetry.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • A strong opinion on where AI-assisted development helps and where it creates rework, based on practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to review architecture decisions critically across different parts of the stack.
  • Understanding of how transformative the expert-generalist model is.

Responsibilities

  • Own the squad's delivery, including sprint shaping, prioritization, backlog grooming, and estimation.
  • Own and improve cycle time without compromising quality, and explain any changes.
  • Ship production code every sprint, off the critical path, using the same agent workflows as the squad.
  • Partner with the Product Strategist to define scope and ensure clear ownership between product and engineering.
  • Grow engineers by providing effective leadership and development opportunities.
  • Own the operational health of the squad, leading on-call rotations, MTTR, and post-incident analysis.
  • Escalate issues early and precisely, providing data-backed recommendations and highlighting tradeoffs.
  • Hire new team members, focusing on AI-augmented capabilities and fostering a strong career path.
