About The Position

ZipRecruiter is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Ranking team within the Marketplace organization. The marketplace team builds products, platforms, and intelligence systems for enterprise customers. Marketplace Optimization uses machine-learning and AI techniques to match job seekers with relevant jobs while delivering results for employers.

In this high-priority, high-impact role, you will lead a senior team of Data Scientists, Generalists, and Machine Learning Engineers. You will own product lines, drive business value, maintain the health of the team and technology stack, and develop a culture of excellence, ownership, and professional growth. The role partners with Product Management and Decision Science to shape the roadmap, define metrics, and set success criteria for marketplace balancing tests. It also involves providing technical guidance on the use of ML and AI, building and deploying machine-learning pipelines, and monitoring model speed and accuracy.

ZipRecruiter offers a hybrid work environment, and most US-based positions may also be performed remotely. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000–$265,000. Equity, bonuses, commission, or other compensation may also be offered depending on the position.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience in a fast-paced software development environment at scale.
• At least 2 years of experience as a software engineering leader.
• Proven experience as an experienced Machine Learning manager or as a Senior/Staff Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer seeking to transition into management.
• Ability to assess technical value, communicate with ML engineers, and evaluate whether AI is being used effectively in day-to-day work.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with leadership, product, and data science teams.
• Deep experience with machine-learning algorithms, techniques, and best practices.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms, and coding skills.
• Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
• Python skills; the posting specifies Python instead of R.
• Java or Scala skills.
• Applied experience with embeddings and/or vectors to solve business problems efficiently using established techniques, tools, frameworks, and models.
• Experience building reproducible machine-learning pipelines, including experiment tracking, data and model versioning, and environment management.
• Experience working through multiple versions of the same product.
• Experience working on a B2C or B2B product.

Nice To Haves

• BS, MS, or PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
• At least 3 years of engineering management experience.
• Demonstrated experience innovating novel approaches and solutions to ambiguous problems.
