About The Position

Vanguard is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Investment Performance Modernization initiative within the AWMT Investment Performance (Portfolio Services and Insights Product Family). This role involves owning delivery, engineering quality, and team leadership while remaining hands-on with AWS data technologies. The manager will drive mainframe modernization to AWS (Glue, PySpark, Redshift), make technical design decisions, and ensure end-to-end delivery, risk management, and stakeholder alignment. Additionally, the manager will lead and develop a high-performing engineering team to ensure scalable, reliable, and high-quality data solutions. Vanguard is also looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the T3 (Testing & Engineering Excellence) team. This role focuses on testing strategy, shared quality platforms, and team leadership, operating as a product owner for engineering quality across the organization. Key responsibilities include defining and evolving testing strategies, owning the vision and roadmap for shared testing capabilities, supporting common testing tools and frameworks, and driving engineering excellence through quality standards and metrics. The manager will partner with product, SRE, and architecture leaders to improve product health and release confidence, and will lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team. Furthermore, Vanguard is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead Spectra (Money Movement). This role is responsible for enabling advised clients to access their money through customer-facing transfer experiences and AWS-based microservices. The manager will champion AI and emerging tech adoption, drive engineering excellence, and coordinate with upstream and downstream money movement teams. They will partner with the Technical Lead and Product Manager to shape product vision and technical strategy, and lead, coach, and develop a high-performing full-stack team.

Requirements

  • Lead the Investment Performance Modernization initiative in AWMT, owning delivery, engineering quality, and team leadership while staying hands-on with AWS data technologies.
  • Lead the T3 team’s testing and engineering excellence mission in AWMT, owning testing strategy, shared quality platforms, and team leadership while operating as a product owner for engineering quality across the organization.
  • Lead Spectra's mission to enable advised clients to access their money when they need it, owning customer-facing transfer experiences and AWS-based microservices (~15,000 requests, $400M+ monthly) while expanding functionality in alignment with client input and driving AI adoption across a full-stack team.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Mainframe modernization to AWS (Glue, PySpark, Redshift)
  • Stay hands-on in Python/PySpark and technical design decisions

  • Define and evolve testing strategy across unit, API, integration, E2E, performance, and resilience testing
  • Act as product owner for shared testing and quality capabilities, owning vision, roadmap, and outcomes
  • Support and mature a suite of common testing tools and frameworks used across AWMT
  • Drive engineering excellence through clear quality standards, metrics, and feedback loops
  • Partner with product, SRE, and architecture leaders to improve product health and release confidence
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing engineering team
  • Manage and deliver the next generation of Advice Money Movement
  • Champion AI and emerging tech adoption by creating space for experimentation and helping the team operationalize learnings
  • Coordinate with upstream and downstream money movement teams (STW, CM5, ET3) and peer EMs to ensure seamless orchestration across complex transfer flows
  • Partner with Technical Lead and Product Manager to shape product vision, technical strategy, and roadmap while balancing customer needs with technical sustainability
