Key responsibilities will include maintaining key relationships by running or attending stakeholder calls with each of the core BI domains, and ensuring tactical engineering decisions are sound through design reviews and design standards. This role involves coordinating the actions of the BI team by hosting regular stand-ups, holding team members accountable for timely ticket/issue updates, and planning sprints while managing project capacity and pace. Building an effective engineering team is crucial, involving hiring skilled candidates, setting regular 1:1s, and following through on performance management. The role also requires coordination with engineering/development manager peers on cross-team projects and setting/executing strategic direction with the Director of Enterprise Analytics, including hiring & onboarding standards, team capacity management, cross-domain analytics strategy, and technical strategy (data warehouse design, developer tooling, and BI engineer workflow design). While technical leadership is a core responsibility and hands-on skills are expected, this is not a developer role. The BI Engineering Manager role is effective when you empower the team to execute quickly and efficiently, with a common vision. You should not take on critical-path development items, but you should spend ~10-15% of time contributing fixes, minor features, and debugging to stay in tune with the developer experience and maintain a working knowledge of our enterprise data models.
