About The Position

The Engineering Manager for eCommerce leads the team behind Camping World, Overton's, and The House, all running on Salesforce Commerce Cloud. This role is currently leading the migration of those storefronts to a headless frontend on Next.js and Vercel. This is a player-coach role where the individual will lead a team of roughly 10 engineers across the US, Mexico, and India, a blend of full-time employees and contractor partners, and will also write code alongside them. The role involves picking up stories, pairing with engineers, reviewing pull requests, and challenging architecture decisions from within the codebase. The position sits on the Digital Consumer Products team and partners closely with the Engineering Manager for RV Sales and the Sr. Manager of QA. The role is responsible for tying engineering work to business value and helping to unleash AI across the software development lifecycle. Success is defined by shipping a headless storefront in increments without breaking existing functionality, operating as a unified team regardless of location or employment type, embedding AI in daily development, and having a trusted platform for peak season.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience
  • At least 3 years in a player-coach or engineering manager role leading engineers directly
  • Currently hands-on and able to write production code, with readiness to prove it in a technical interview
  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud (B2C Commerce), including storefront development, cartridges, and platform APIs
  • Strong command of modern frontend engineering, including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and server-rendered web applications
  • Demonstrated experience unleashing AI across the SDLC, with real examples of AI tools and agents changing how a team plans, builds, tests, and ships
  • Proven ability to tie engineering work to business value and communicate it in terms leadership can act on
  • Proven experience leading distributed teams across multiple countries and timezones, ideally including nearshore or offshore engineers
  • Experience leading a blended team of full-time employees and contractors, including holding vendor partners accountable to delivery and quality
  • A track record running production eCommerce platforms at scale, including peak season readiness and incident management
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience

Nice To Haves

  • Production experience with headless or composable commerce architecture, ideally headless Salesforce Commerce Cloud
  • Hands-on experience with Next.js and Vercel, including SSR, ISR, edge rendering, and caching strategies
  • Experience leading a storefront replatform or migration from a monolithic frontend to a headless architecture
  • Deep familiarity with SCAPI, OCAPI, SLAS, and SFCC Business Manager
  • Experience running multi-brand or multi-site commerce on a shared platform
  • Background in retail, outdoor, marine, RV, or specialty retail environments
  • Working knowledge of SEO, accessibility (WCAG), and Core Web Vitals in a commerce context
  • Familiarity with Vercel, Harness or comparable CI/CD, Dynatrace or comparable observability, Kong or comparable API gateway, Linear, and Confluence

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and grow a distributed team of roughly 10 engineers across the US, Mexico, and India through regular 1:1s, clear expectations, and honest feedback.
  • Build one team out of a blended workforce of roughly 60% full-time employees and 40% contractors, ensuring the same standards, rituals, and quality bar for all.
  • Design overlap windows, clean handoffs, and async documentation to facilitate work across timezones without burnout.
  • Hire, onboard, and develop engineers, partnering with HR and vendor partners on staffing decisions.
  • Set the pace by raising the bar on personal performance and demonstrating leadership through action.
  • Write production code on a regular basis, picking up stories within the sprint alongside engineers.
  • Pair with engineers, review pull requests, and lead technical design from within the codebase.
  • Prototype challenging aspects of the headless migration to establish proven patterns for the team.
  • Lead the migration from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to a headless frontend built on Next.js and deployed on Vercel.
  • Sequence the migration in increments (by page type, brand, or capability) to ensure continuous business operation.
  • Protect SEO rankings, URL structures, site performance, Core Web Vitals, analytics fidelity, and checkout reliability during cutovers.
  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture on integration patterns between the Next.js frontend, SFCC APIs, and third-party services.
  • Lead AI adoption across the full software development lifecycle (requirements, design, coding, code review, testing, documentation, release).
  • Implement AI coding assistants and agents for engineers with clear guardrails and standards.
  • Partner with the Sr. Manager of QA on AI-assisted test generation, regression coverage, and quality automation.
  • Measure and share the impact of AI adoption on cycle time, quality, and throughput.
  • Model AI tool usage daily in personal coding to lead team adoption.
  • Own engineering delivery for 3 brand storefronts, balancing shared components with brand-specific needs.
  • Maintain production health through ownership of uptime, performance, and incident response, especially before peak seasons.
  • Establish observability, alerting, and on-call practices to proactively identify issues.
  • Own quality through automated testing, CI/CD, code review standards, and release practices for a distributed team.
  • Address technical debt purposefully and justify it in business terms.
  • Partner closely with the Engineering Manager for RV Sales on shared platform, integration, and customer experience work.
  • Partner with the Sr. Manager of QA on test strategy, release quality, and regression coverage.
  • Collaborate with digital product, merchandising, marketing, and brand leaders to create an engineering roadmap.
  • Tie engineering work to measurable business value (conversion, revenue, AOV, site speed, customer experience) and communicate it to the team and leadership.
  • Translate technical trade-offs into plain language for non-technical stakeholders and bring business context back to the team.
  • Manage vendor and contractor partners, holding them to engineering standards from scoping through delivery.
  • Build knowledge transfer into team processes to ensure critical platform knowledge resides within the team.
