About The Position

As a Cloud Engineering Manager for DevOps at Modernizing Medicine, you will lead an engineering team responsible for fielding, refining, and delivering AWS infrastructure requests across all product lines. You will serve as a bridge between application development teams and core cloud operations, maintaining stakeholder relationships, reconciling incoming demand with the Internal Developer Platform (IDP) roadmap, and finding opportunities to build reusable platform capabilities instead of bespoke infrastructure solutions. The role also involves leading and developing DevOps engineers and promoting operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. This position is hybrid, and on-call participation may be required to support production systems.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in engineering management or technical leadership, managing software or platform engineering teams.
  • At least 8 years of experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Architecture.
  • Deep technical expertise in at least one of these areas: cloud ecosystems (AWS preferred), container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS), or Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Experience building applications on AWS, EKS, and Terraform-based internal developer platforms.
  • Strong background in CI/CD automation, GitOps principles, and modern deployment methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise observability, operational excellence, and SRE best practices.
  • Exceptional leadership, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with a focus on product-minded engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • A proven track record of building and delivering internal developer platforms or developer enablement tools.

Responsibilities

  • Field AWS infrastructure requests from software development teams supporting new product features and capabilities across all product lines.
  • Refine infrastructure requests to ensure technical completeness, clarity, and alignment with organizational architectural standards.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with engineering and product stakeholders across product lines.
  • Reconcile feature requests with the Internal Developer Platform roadmap and identify opportunities to deliver scalable platform features rather than one-off infrastructure.
  • Schedule, prioritize, and manage team workflows to support consistent, predictable delivery of engineering commitments.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop DevOps engineers while fostering operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with InfoSec and Cloud Platform leadership to incorporate security guardrails, cost governance, and automated CI/CD pipelines into daily workflows.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, including a company Health Savings Account contribution.
  • 401(k) matching contribution: 50% of the employee's contribution deferred on up to 6% of compensation; matching contributions vest after one year of employment.
