The Engineering Manager will report to the VP of Engineering, leading a team of full-stack software engineers. This role involves mentoring, technical guidance, and hands-on contributions. It is ideal for a manager experienced in building new teams from scratch and comfortable with ambiguity while driving predictable velocity.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience.
  • 1-2 years of formal or informal people-leadership experience (tech lead, team lead, or direct management).
  • Strong technical foundation across the stack (frontend, backend, APIs, data).
  • Experience delivering a product or capability with engineers as end-users (internal platform, SDK, design system, framework, shared services layer, or developer-tools product).
  • Demonstrated ability to coach engineers on technical growth, scope, and career development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Sound judgment around prioritization, scope, and trade-offs.
  • Empathy, humility, and high standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience starting a new team from scratch, defining its charter, hiring, and establishing its role within the organization.
  • Experience building shared application platforms, frameworks, design systems, or internal SDKs adopted by multiple internal product teams.
  • Experience with TypeScript / Node.js, React, Go, Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, Datadog.
  • Familiarity with multi-tenant architecture, identity/authn/authz patterns, feature flags, and other common primitives.
  • Experience establishing or improving engineering practices like incident response, on-call, ADRs, code review standards, or career ladders.
  • Background in B2B SaaS, developer tools, industrial automation, OT/IT, manufacturing software, or IoT.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a new squad of approximately four senior full-stack engineers, managing hiring, onboarding, and growth through 1:1s and performance feedback.
  • Foster a culture of high standards and psychological safety within the team.
  • Define the team's ownership boundaries and engagement models in partnership with Engineering leadership, Product, and Design.
  • Translate high-level goals into a clear roadmap and delivery milestones.
  • Treat internal product teams as customers, understanding their pain points, prioritizing, and shipping reusable capabilities.
  • Measure the adoption and impact of shared capabilities across the organization.
  • Oversee the architecture of shared full-stack platforms (frontend, backend, APIs, multi-tenant primitives) and ensure scalability.
  • Provide architectural input, code reviews, and hands-on contributions where they add the most leverage.
  • Be responsible for operational quality, including on-call practices, incident response, and engineering standards (CI/CD, ADRs, testing).

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and location.
  • Meaningful equity in an early-stage, venture-backed company.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Unlimited PTO and company holidays.
  • 401(k) plan.
