About The Position

We’re looking for an exceptional Engineering Manager to lead one of our Backend engineering teams at Healthie. This role offers a unique opportunity to guide a high-impact team responsible for the scalability, reliability, and performance of Healthie's most critical systems -- including billing, insurance, and payments infrastructure -- ensuring our platform continues to meet the needs of providers, patients, and partners as we grow. As an Engineering Manager for Core R&D, you’ll be accountable for driving execution within your squads, overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of core systems and services. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional business partners to translate requirements into scalable, performant solutions that power Healthie’s infrastructure and product experiences. At Healthie, we are increasingly AI-enabled and AI-accelerated in how we build. We are looking for leaders who actively leverage AI-powered development tools, embrace automation, and help teams adopt modern, AI-assisted engineering practices to increase velocity and quality.

Requirements

  • Experience: 8+ years as a software engineer and 2+ years leading teams, ideally in SaaS; healthcare tech experience a plus.Experience with billing, insurance, or revenue cycle systems is valuable but not required.
  • Technical: Strong hands-on experience with our stack — Rails, React, TypeScript, GraphQL, Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq, RSpec, and Capybara — plus a broad foundation in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
  • Mobile-Aware: Experience building or collaborating on mobile applications (iOS, Android, or React Native) and designing APIs and systems that support high-quality mobile experiences. Comfortable considering mobile performance, usability, and platform constraints when building full-stack features.
  • Leader: Proven ability to coach engineers, set priorities, and drive execution while fostering growth, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Communicator: Clear and effective in writing and async communication, able to simplify complex topics for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Independent: Organized, self-directed, and proactive in problem-solving—able to identify solutions and remove blockers quickly.
  • Builder: Committed to scaling both teams and systems; passionate about making a lasting impact on Healthie’s core technology.

Responsibilities

  • Leading, mentoring, and coaching engineers within your squad to foster technical excellence, growth, and collaboration.
  • Owning execution of your squad’s roadmaps, ensuring clear prioritization, accountability, and delivery of high-impact initiatives.
  • Partnering with peers across Engineering and Product to shape architectural decisions, balance trade-offs, and drive long-term system reliability.
  • Championing engineering best practices to deliver secure, performant, and maintainable code.
  • Creating an environment where engineers feel empowered, supported, and motivated to do their best work.
