Physical AI is a major technological shift, and Verkada is at its forefront. The Atlas team is the founding engineering team responsible for the Maps mandate at Verkada, with the mission to transform the physical world into a high-performance, interactive digital twin. They build the Spatial Systems, including the core rendering engine, tiling infrastructure, and collaborative APIs, which power the visual interface for the entire product ecosystem. The Atlas team builds a Spatial Platform that core Product Teams use as their canvas, ensuring a performant, unified, and "multiplayer" map experience as Verkada scales to 8+ product lines.

Requirements

Execution Bias & Technical Grit: Thrives in the high-ambiguity phase of a zero-to-one build; prioritizes shipping high-utility foundations over perfect abstractions; proven ability to translate a high-level vision into a tangible, functioning platform in weeks, not months.
Strategic Communication: Ability to negotiate technical boundaries with other product teams, ensuring a consistent user experience across the entire Verkada "Command" suite.
UI Depth & Sophistication: Experience leading the development of highly complex, state-heavy web or mobile applications; understanding of performance trade-offs for rendering thousands of interactive entities; deep grasp of modern frontend architectures (React, WebGL/WebGPU, Swift/Kotlin).
Data Pipeline & ML Maturity: Experience building sophisticated data pipelines that handle unstructured data at scale; knowledge of how to turn raw inputs into structured, queryable information through ML, ETL, or complex geometric algorithms.

Responsibilities

Act as a "Player-Coach" to build the V1 of our Spatial System from the ground up, owning the initial delivery of the image pipeline and setting technical standards for collaborative editing protocols.
Lead the design of a modular, plugin-based architecture, defining SDKs and APIs for 8+ Product Teams to overlay their specialized data onto maps seamlessly.
Oversee the development of systems that transform unstructured source data (blueprints, CAD files, high-res imagery) into clean, topologically sound vector data using ML and automated processing.
Build the founding Atlas team from scratch (4-6 engineers), establishing engineering culture, code review standards, and architectural RFC processes, focusing on high-performance graphics and spatial math.
Act as the primary technical diplomat for the Maps mandate, negotiating technical boundaries with other Product EMs to ensure a unified user experience across the entire Verkada suite.
