Engineering Manager, Anti-Abuse & Security

ReplitFoster City, CA
$210,000 - $275,000Onsite

About The Position

Replit is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to establish and lead its Anti-Abuse team. This is a foundational role where the manager will define the anti-abuse strategy, recruit a team of engineers and data analysts, and develop systems to protect Replit's platform, users, and finances from malicious actors. The role involves close collaboration with Support, Legal, Security, Infrastructure, and Money and Growth teams to deter abuse while minimizing disruption for legitimate users. The position is at the forefront of AI-driven abuse, addressing threats like phishing, cryptomining, LLM token farming, payment fraud, and AI agent exploitation. The team will be responsible for Replit's defense against these evolving threats.

Requirements

  • 6 to 10+ years of engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing teams.
  • Experience in anti-abuse, trust and safety engineering, fraud, or a related adversarial domain.
  • Hands-on coding ability, including prototyping and code reviews.
  • Proficiency with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Replit Agent).
  • Experience building scalable detection and enforcement systems (rules engines, ML-based risk scoring, reputation systems, identity/device signals).
  • Strong product and metrics intuition, with experience defining success metrics for ambiguous problems.
  • Experience operating cross-functionally with Support, Legal, Security, and Growth teams.
  • Excellent written communication skills for building clarity in a 0-to-1 environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI-native abuse vectors (prompt injection, LLM token farming, agent-driven abuse) or adapting to novel threat categories.
  • Familiarity with payment fraud, card testing, coupon abuse, referral abuse, or promotional abuse.
  • Experience integrating KYC and identity verification providers (e.g., Prove, Persona, Socure, Stripe Identity).
  • Experience at a consumer platform, developer tool, or cloud provider with significant abuse surface area.
  • Background in security, trust and safety, or fraud prevention at a hypergrowth company.

Responsibilities

  • Build the anti-abuse roadmap from scratch, including defining the threat model, prioritizing abuse vectors, and creating a shipping plan.
  • Design and implement progressive verification and identity infrastructure to gate platform capabilities based on user trust levels.
  • Act as a hands-on Engineering Manager, contributing to code, prototyping detections, building internal tools, and leveraging AI coding tools.
  • Define key anti-abuse metrics (e.g., abuse rate, fraud loss, false positive rate) and establish data pipelines and dashboards for tracking.
  • Hire and develop a high-leverage team of software engineers and data analysts, fostering a culture of ownership, adversarial thinking, and AI-native execution.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Support, Legal, Security, Infrastructure, Money, and Growth teams.
  • Design adaptive friction systems to make abuse economically unviable while maintaining a smooth experience for legitimate users.
