Requirements

  • Knowledge of chiller operations and air handling operations.
  • Must have knowledge of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Must have knowledge of pump repair, alignment and maintenance.
  • Must have knowledge of air pneumatic controls.
  • Must be knowledgeable of OSHA, Fire and Department of Health standards, codes and requirements.
  • Must be able to read blue prints.
  • Requires working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word 2000 and Microsoft Excel programs.
  • Ability to safely operate basic hand tools and electrical powered tools and equipment.
  • Specialized tools and equipment will be required for the Engineer’s scope of work.
  • A 10-key calculator by touch, proficiency using Windows based accounting computer software, web based program, Excel, Word and email software.
  • Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to computer, printer, calculators, photocopiers and postage machine, paper shredder, time clock, facsimile machines and other general office equipment.
  • Able to work under pressure with short deadlines.
  • High degree to concentration, attention to detail needed for accurate data entry.
  • Ability to sort, check, count and verify numbers.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently.
  • Flexibility to adapt to all situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate good common sense and sound judgment.
  • Able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to stand for the duration of the shift while supporting additional weight of tools and materials of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to grasp, lift or carry objects at least waist high weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to reach above head and support items such as wood, ceiling tiles, etc.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and awkward positions requiring crouching, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching overhead for extended periods of time and walking significantly distances throughout the facility.
  • Must be able to grasp hand tools and lift, push or pull items up to 100 lbs. is required with wheeled assistance.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling and walking while significantly distances throughout the facility.
  • Ability to reach in all direction while standing on a ladder, scaffolding or man lift at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Able to communicate in both verbal and written formats.
  • Basic English language communication skills in order to fully comprehend job assignments read and understand manufacturer’s instructions to adhere to safety warnings.
  • Telephone etiquette skills needed.
  • Ability to listen effectively, to speak and write English clearly.
  • Basic mathematical and calculator skills to prepare mathematical calculations without error.
  • Any combination of education and education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience of at least five years that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Normally requires five (5) years electrical work experience in buildings HVAC systems.
  • Normally requires three (3) to five (5) years commercial kitchen work experience.
  • Knowledgeable in kitchen equipment, plumbing, steam and ventilation repairs and installation.
  • Normally requires three (3) to five (5) years refrigeration and air conditioning work experience.
  • Must have Refrigerant Certification for 1-2-3 (required).
  • Normally requires three (3) to five (5) years general maintenance work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the general direction of management, supervise and provide training for the maintenance personnel and assist in providing a safe and healthy environment for our employees and guests to enjoy.
  • Assist in the repair and preventive maintenance of all major pieces of HVAC equipment, which includes the condenser and chill water pumps, cooling towers and air handlers.
  • Monitor and schedule repairs and maintenance of the Chillers.
  • Maintain an accurate preventive maintenance program to ensure the equipment is maintained on a scheduled basis.
  • Input air handler on/off times for scheduled functions on the Energy Management System.
  • Operate chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, supply fans, exhaust fans and return air fans.
  • Perform chemical tests on chilled water and cooling tower water.
  • Balance airflow for proper air circulation.
  • Keep inventory of supplies and parts for main HVAC equipment.
  • Knowledge of pumps repairs, alignment and preventive maintenance.
  • Take meter readings on specified equipment.
  • Be responsible for specified equipment and areas of responsibilities.
  • Complete guest room and back of the house repairs as needed.
  • Paint areas as needed.
  • Obtain price quotations and fill out requisitions for parts and supplies.
  • Perform the necessary repairs to moderately complex equipment such as vacuum cleaners, toasters, lamps and small appliances on an as needed basis.
  • Work in a workshop environment and requires working at a workbench.
  • Assist other engineers and to pick up parts.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor, e.g. errands to pick up parts.
  • Swimming pool and Jacuzzi maintenance and repair.
  • Complete guest room and back of the house calls quickly and accurately.
  • Directly responsible for the repair and maintenance of the hotel and golf course facility’s kitchen equipment and refrigeration units.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all major pieces of kitchen and bakeshop equipment.
  • Maintain and organize a properly stocked kitchen storeroom by keeping an inventory of supplies, parts and equipment manuals to quickly complete repairs.
  • Maintain and repairs all Vent master kitchen exhaust systems.
  • Perform plumbing projects and drain care.
  • Monitor grease and drain management to ensure the kitchen personnel are complying with the City & County of Honolulu’s regulations.
  • Assist in the repair and preventive maintenance of all major pieces of refrigeration (including ice machines) and guest room air conditioning units.
  • Responsible for the repair and maintenance for walk in, reach in, free standing refrigerators, ice machines, free standing A/C units guest room A/C units and roof top cooling units.
  • Keep inventory of supplies and parts for the A/C and Refrigeration equipment.
  • Replace air filters and clean coils.
  • Work with all trade mechanics as required helping with repairs and maintenance.
  • Have good mechanical ability and be willing to learn and take directions from trade mechanics.
  • Skilled in the use of basic hand and electric tools and familiarity with parts and materials is required.
  • May be responsible to complete and keep an accurate “Rooms Preventive Maintenance Program”.
  • Work in hot, cold and wet conditions and be able to stoop, crawl on all types of surfaces.
  • Clean and paint all mechanical spaces.
  • Have the visual ability to identify and match color-coded electrical wires.
  • Detailed training on different trades and to gain working knowledge to advance in work class.
