This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in Raleigh, NC; Northbrook, IL; or Melville, NY. The Engineering Leader will implement and execute capacity and capability management, ensure effective workflow by engaging with cross-functional leads and customers, and drive process improvements to achieve financial results. This role typically supports local team members but may also support remote employees. The leader will drive a high-performing team by managing performance and development, operating effectively in the UL matrix to support culture changes and transformation efforts, and holding themselves and the team accountable for results. They will assist the Engineering Manager in defining goals and performance objectives, and metrics to execute strategy. Development and coaching will be provided through training, career counseling, feedback, and guidance to drive high performance and morale. The role ensures understanding of and compliance with all established policies and requirements. The leader will increase customer loyalty, anticipate customer needs, provide proactive solutions, and gather, share, and respond to customer feedback, coaching and mentoring employees to do the same. Support will be provided to sales by building relationships with customers, understanding the pipeline, obtaining feedback, and identifying actions and solutions. Direct support will be given to customers and the team through technical guidance and engineering judgment to complete projects and address issues. Quality and adherence to policies and standards requirements will be ensured. The role involves leading and/or participating in discussions to drive business initiatives, empowering and holding the team accountable to find new opportunities for growth and financial goals, and delegating Project Handlers to establish appropriate test programs. Support and guidance will be provided to project handlers to ensure compliance with requirements, changes in scope or specifications, and customer notifications. The role involves explaining UL family of company's policies, procedures, and requirements, negotiating completion dates and sample requirements, and ensuring an effective experience with the UL family of companies. Some projects may be handled and/or the role may act as a lead reviewer to support workflow and demand. The leader will communicate and exemplify UL's Vision and Mission, lead, promote, and embrace change, and collaborate to build trust within the organization and with customers. Strong, flexible cross-functional networks and global relationships will be developed. Employees will be coached and mentored to do the same. Adherence to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and all physical and digital security practices is required. Other duties as directed will be performed.
