About The Position

Resource Innovations is seeking a full-time Engineering Lead. This position reports to the HQ office in Chicago, IL, but 100% Remote Work is permitted from anywhere in the U.S. Up to 10% domestic travel is required to project sites within the United States. The role involves leading significant project teams, utilizing specialized engineering knowledge for complex and high-risk assignments with minimal guidance. The Engineering Lead will guide engineering staff to achieve client, operational, and service objectives, delegate and oversee the quality and timeliness of multiple project deliverables, and manage the implementation of energy-saving projects and programs for small business and industrial customers. Maintaining the highest level of quality control, demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while adhering to project schedules is crucial. The position also requires providing subject matter expertise and advanced technical direction, mentoring junior engineers in areas like energy auditing, inspections, and measurement & verification. Responsibilities include performing energy efficiency calculations using spreadsheets and/or energy simulation modeling, developing and reviewing energy savings calculations for various equipment, and researching new conservation measures. The role also involves providing technical support, evaluating energy savings and environmental impact, offering technical and program feedback, and reviewing technical report writing.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Manufactured Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering or another directly related field of study plus 2 years of experience in the job offered or a related energy engineering occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Manufactured Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or another directly related field of study plus 4 years of experience in the job offered or a related energy engineering occupation.
  • 2 years of experience reviewing technical resource manuals for lighting, HVAC, building envelope, compressed air, refrigeration, and related systems, and developing calculation spreadsheets to provide potential energy savings for small-to-medium commercial and industrial operations.
  • 2 years of experience performing in-field inspections to assess lighting fixtures and associated network lighting controls and verifying energy savings associated with upgrades to advanced energy-efficient lighting systems.
  • 2 years of experience working with state and federal energy efficiency codes and policies, including Illinois state policies developed through Stakeholder Advisory Groups (SAG), ASHRAE standards, IECC codes, and ASME standards, to help develop program procedures and guidelines.
  • 1 year of experience reviewing energy efficiency program evaluation reports from third-party evaluators and assessing details for accuracy of reported savings and incentives.
  • 1 year of experience performing in-field inspections assessing HVAC systems and building controls to verify energy savings associated with upgrades to advanced energy-efficient HVAC systems.
  • 1 year of experience developing scoping-level calculations to estimate energy savings potential from emerging technologies, including energy management systems (EMS) for small businesses.
  • 1 year of experience supporting the development of new energy efficiency measures and pilot programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead significant project teams and use specialized engineering knowledge and skills to work on assignments with high levels of risk and complexity with minimal guidance in only the most complex situations.
  • Lead engineering staff to achieve client, operational, and service objectives.
  • Delegate and oversee the quality and timeliness of multiple project deliverables performed by other engineering staff.
  • Lead and manage implementation of energy-saving projects and programs for small business and industrial customers at RI.
  • Maintain the highest level of quality control of deliverable products (for your work and others), demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining project schedules.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advanced technical direction to other staff, mentor and train junior engineers on various engineering areas, including energy auditing, inspections, and measurement & verification.
  • Perform energy efficiency calculations by using spreadsheet and/or energy simulation modeling.
  • Develop and review energy savings calculations for different baseline and efficient equipment and write technical work paper(s).
  • Work on new research and development for conservation measures, and provide technical support to the team.
  • Perform and review energy savings calculations for evaluating energy savings and environmental impact.
  • Provide timely technical and program feedback, listen to customer needs, and set expectations appropriately.
  • Review technical report writing, contribute to draft reports, including results.
