About The Position

IERUS specializes in electromagnetic spectrum technologies and design for RF, IR, and optical applications. IERUS also supports customers with a diverse set of competencies including software development, air and missile defense, and systems engineering. IERUS develops value for our defense and commercial customers through accelerations of the technology life cycle: identifying, creating, transitioning, and producing technologies with integrity of purpose and product. We are currently seeking 2 full-time engineering interns for Summer 2026 (May - August) at our Huntsville, AL location. We are accepting applications for graduate and undergraduate students to support ongoing projects involving radar data collection, analysis, and algorithm development. Interns will be exposed to real-world challenges in detecting, tracking, and interpreting signals in complex environments, while learning core principles that underpin radar operation and digital signal processing. This internship is designed to provide meaningful technical experience, mentorship from experienced engineers, and a solid introduction to radar and signal processing concepts used in industry today.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of signals and systems or linear algebra
  • Familiarity with programming (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Strong analytical thinking and willingness to learn
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • Copy of current transcript must be attached when completing application (official transcript is not required)

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamentals of radar systems (e.g., range, Doppler, resolution, noise)
  • Practical implementation of digital signal processing methods
  • Exposure to tools such as MATLAB, Python, or similar platforms
  • Insight into real-world engineering workflows, testing, and validation

Responsibilities

  • Assist in analyzing radar data using signal processing techniques such as filtering, Fourier transforms, and time-frequency analysis
  • Support development and testing of algorithms for target detection, tracking, and classification
  • Work with engineers to understand radar system components, including transmitters, receivers, and antennas
  • Help simulate radar scenarios and evaluate system performance under different conditions
  • Document findings and contribute to technical reports and presentations
