About The Position

Red Wing Shoe Company’s 2027 Internship Program provides meaningful work intended to prepare students for their careers. The Engineering Intern will gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of engineering by contributing to projects in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The role includes exposure to real-world engineering challenges, cross-functional collaboration, and opportunities to develop technical and problem-solving skills. The position is fully on-site in Red Wing, Minnesota, and applicants must live within a commutable distance. The schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Compensation is $25 per hour.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, such as mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, and/or design engineering.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest in working within a production environment.
• Must live within a commutable distance to Red Wing, Minnesota.

Responsibilities

• Use CAD software to update plant layouts to reflect recent and ongoing facility changes.
• Use 3D scanning technology and comparative analysis tools to audit and document geometrical designs across multiple manufacturing facilities.
• Participate in a week-long Continuous Improvement event focused on improving production processes related to safety, quality, productivity, and 5S.
• Collaborate with another engineer on a smaller-scale capital equipment project, including defining the scope of work, interacting with vendors, preparing quotes and CER documentation, implementing the project, and resolving outstanding issues.
