About The Position

From day one, we’ve blazed a trail protecting the planet and everyone on it. We break things, burn things and blow things up. All in the name of safety science. That’s where you come in — because none of it could happen without you. It takes passion to protect people, problem-solving to safeguard personal data and conviction to make the world a more sustainable place. It takes bold ideas and brilliant minds to build a better world for future generations across the globe. As our global footprint continues to spread across the world, we are looking for Engineering Interns to join our team in Northbrook, IL, Auburn Hills, MI and Melville, NY. This role is hybrid - 3 days a week on-site at the Northbrook or Melville Office.

Requirements

• Rising senior currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in: Civil / Chemical / Electrical / Mechanical / Textile Engineering, Chemistry, Fire Safety or related major
• Highly motivated self-starter
• Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Must have indefinite right to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Built Environment (BE): Our buildings don’t just shape our skylines — they provide the backdrop to our lives. And knowing they’re safe matters. We’ve been helping to create safer structures since 1894, combining our expertise with innovative new technologies to help make sure both people and property are secure. As more people have to deal with extreme weather, we’re on hand to test products and building materials to increasingly rigorous standards. Whether we’re simulating tornadoes or testing smoke alarms, the work we do on our team is used in buildings around the world to — quite literally — help save lives. Join our team and build your skills, build innovative solutions and help build a safer world. • Energy and Industrial Automation (EIA): We work at the center of safety and sustainability — we’re helping to tackle the worst aspects of the global climate crisis with projects in electrical infrastructure, renewable energy and electrified transportation. Whether we’re helping customers make safer electric vehicle batteries or debating the impact of wind farms, we develop cutting-edge safety science. And we do it in some of the largest and best-equipped laboratories in the world. We’re always looking for people to help us explore, experiment and advance ideas that change the way the world works. • Engineered Materials (EM): You might not see them, but wires and cables make the world go round. And wherever they are, we test them — from wearable medical devices and mobile phones to cables that span oceans and scale buildings. Whether they’re strapped to electrical towers or analyzing data, our engineers test products that are advancing exciting developments in AI, sustainable energy and the electrification of everything. That’s why we’re looking for ambitious people who want to work on diverse, dynamic projects that help to create a safer and more sustainable future. Join our team, spark innovation and spark the next generation of safety science.
• Research & Development (R&D): Want to work on the problems nobody has solved yet? The UL Solutions R&D team sits at the intersection of science, engineering and innovation. We partner with every business across UL Solutions to investigate emerging technologies, develop new safety methodologies and answer the toughest technical questions facing industry today. From fire equipment testing, and battery safety to mechanical and electrical systems, hardware-in-the-loop, and custom-built test equipment, our projects span disciplines and industries. Interns gain exposure to real-world research, advanced laboratories, simulation tools and multidisciplinary teams that are shaping future standards, products and technologies. If you're curious, hands-on and excited by solving complex engineering problems, R&D offers a chance to work on projects that help define what safer innovation looks like tomorrow.
