About The Position

We are looking for talented and passionate college students for the summer to join our Barrios team in support of work we do for government and commercial industries in human spaceflight. This is a unique opportunity for a college student (Sophomore by credit or higher) to have an internship supporting missions to low-Earth orbit, the Moon, and to Mars and beyond. This position will be in our Engineering department. The goal of this internship is to introduce the successful candidate to multiple engineering disciplines while performing a project in a designated area that is integral to achieving mission success. Each candidate will present an out-brief at the end of the internship.

Requirements

  • Students must be actively pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering); Math; Science; or Technology; from an accredited college of university.
  • Sophomore credit equivalency (30-59 credit hours at the time of application) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
  • Generally, an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Computer programming (Visual Basic, C#, Python, Java) in addition to your STEM background is a plus.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Windchill, CAD modeling, or requirements management (e.g. DOORS) should be highlighted if applicable.
  • Project or other leadership experience (in school, extracurricular, or internship), innovation or process improvement skills, ability to demonstrate technical understanding of complex situations and communicate to appropriate audience.
