About The Position

EMCORE is seeking an Engineering Intern for immediate placement at our Quartz MEMS (QMEMS) facility in Concord, CA. The Engineering Intern supports EMCORE's on site engineering team on active hardware programs spanning design, test, and product development. Working alongside engineers and assigned mentor, the intern gains hands-on exposure to engineering practice in an aerospace and defense environment while contributing to real project deliverables and building technical and professional skills. This position requires on site attendance in Concord, CA.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited degree program (Associate's, Bachelor's, or Graduate level) in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0, or as otherwise approved by the hiring manager.
  • Basic proficiency with engineering or scientific software tools appropriate to the assigned discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work on site in Concord, CA per the schedule and hours outlined in the Intern Contract Details section below.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools.
  • Coursework or project experience related to sensors, optics, or space/defense hardware.
  • Experience with test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters).
  • Prior exposure to an aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering staff with design, analysis, testing, and documentation tasks on assigned projects.
  • Support data collection, reduction, and reporting for engineering tests and experiments.
  • Participate in design reviews, team meetings, and project status updates.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and procedures as directed.
  • Use engineering tools and software (e.g., CAD, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or equivalent) to complete assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and communicate progress to the assigned mentor/manager.
  • Adhere to EMCORE's safety, quality, and export control policies and procedures.

Benefits

  • Hourly compensation is $20.00 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly payroll cycle.
  • Employee Health benefits are not included.
