About The Position

The Engineering Intern will support the Engineering Department while gaining exposure to multiple areas of the business, including Sales, Production Control, Manufacturing, and the shop floor. This role is intended to provide hands-on learning in a manufacturing environment while helping with basic engineering, documentation, drafting, product support, and process improvement tasks. The intern will work under the direction of the Engineering team and will be expected to learn how engineering decisions affect quoting, scheduling, production, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Interest in engineering, manufacturing, drafting, or product design.
  • Willingness to learn from Engineering, Sales, Production Control, and shop personnel.
  • Basic computer skills; exposure to CAD software is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to follow instructions and ask questions when clarification is needed.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to spend time both at a desk and on the shop floor.
  • Dependable, organized, and open to feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic drafting and drawing updates under supervision.
  • Help create, revise, and organize engineering documentation.
  • Support engineers with product research, measurements, layouts, and design reviews.
  • Assist with checking drawings for basic accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Help document product changes, engineering requests, and lessons learned.
  • Support simple testing, inspection, or validation activities as needed.
  • Learn how Sales requests are received, reviewed, and translated into engineering work.
  • Assist with gathering product information needed for quotes or customer requests.
  • Help document common customer needs, product options, or recurring questions.
  • Understand how engineering drawings and product details support the sales process.
  • Learn how jobs are released, scheduled, and tracked through the system.
  • Assist with reviewing job information, part availability, and documentation needs.
  • Support communication between Engineering and Production Control when needed.
  • Spend time on the shop floor learning how products are cut, formed, welded, assembled, and finished.
  • Observe how engineering drawings are used by production employees.
  • Help gather feedback from the shop on drawing clarity, fit-up issues, manufacturability, and process improvements.
  • Assist with basic time studies, process observations, or quality checks as assigned.
