About The Position

Goodwyn Mills Cawood, LLC (GMC) is seeking an Engineering Intern to support ongoing projects in their Brentwood, TN and Nashville, TN offices. This internship offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience by preparing reports, site plans, permit documents, and construction schedules. Interns will work on a variety of projects and assignments with guidance from managers and colleagues to ensure their development and learning process. The role involves applying technical skills to routine projects with minimal supervision, directing technicians for accurate production of engineering documents, executing cross-discipline checks, and reviewing project documents for quality assurance. The intern will also be responsible for recognizing and reporting risk management issues, assisting in understanding client needs, upholding ethical obligations to clients and the public, and reviewing scope of work issues with consultants and contractors. Collaboration across disciplines and office locations is expected to leverage firm knowledge. The intern will act as a team player, represent the firm professionally, and respond to client or regulatory agency inquiries. They will prepare reports and technical memorandums under supervision, effectively present information, and may direct the work of technicians. Continuous participation in individual development planning, contributing to improving project delivery processes, and supporting the Client Services team are also key aspects of the role. Active participation in local professional societies and community service activities is encouraged.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering from ABET accredited university
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Civil3D is preferred
  • A/E or EPC experience a plus
  • Foundations of Engineering Certificate (EIT) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Apply technical skills to routine projects with minimal supervision
  • Direct technicians for production of engineering documents for routine projects accurately and efficiently
  • Execute cross discipline checks and coordination
  • Review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance
  • Recognize and report risk management issues to Project Engineer as appropriate
  • Assist in learning the needs of assigned clients
  • Understand the profession’s ethical obligation to Client and the public welfare
  • Assist with reviewing and defining scope of work issues with Consultants and Contractors
  • Work across disciplines and office locations to fully utilize firm experiential knowledge
  • Assist others with technical mentoring
  • Recognize the role as a team player
  • Represent the firm in all aspects of projects and assignments to prospective employees, clients, and the communities we serve
  • Respond to common inquiries from Clients or regulatory agencies
  • Prepare reports and technical memorandums with oversight and supervision by the Engineer-of-Record
  • Effectively present information in oral and written format
  • May direct or coordinate the work of technicians and others who assist in specific assignments
  • Continually participate in Individual Development planning and programs
  • Provide input to improving project delivery processes and standards
